The one document nobody tells you to ask for
Almost every avoidable problem in Indian distance education traces back to a letter that was never requested at enrolment.
When someone arrives at a verification desk and is told their degree is not accepted, the conversation almost always reaches the same point: can you produce the entitlement letter for your programme and your intake year?
Most people have never heard of it. It was not mentioned at enrolment, it is not in the prospectus, and by the time it matters the university is slow to respond.
Ask for it on the day you enrol, when the institution is most motivated to help you.
What to ask for, precisely
- The UGC-DEB entitlement covering the programme you are enrolling in.
- For the mode — online or ODL — you will study in.
- For the session or intake year you are joining.
- In writing, on institutional letterhead, retained by you.
If they will not give it
A university that holds entitlement has no reason to withhold the letter. Reluctance at this point is information, and it is much cheaper to act on before you have paid than after you have graduated.
If you have already enrolled and never asked, ask now. It is easier to obtain while you are a current student than as an alumnus.
